After 45+ years of operation from its existing data center, UAB decided it was time to build a new state-of-the-art facility. They retained Line Scale Form and their team in 2017 to complete the programming and design for the new building.
The design for the Technology Innovation Center is the tale of two buildings. The public half of the building has space for approximately 100 IT Department employees in an open office configuration. Curtain wall provides ample daylighting for workers and views to surrounding campus buildings.
The remaining portion of the building contains 2,800 sq. ft. of “white space” as well as support spaces for the data hall and office space. The data hall utilizes a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) as one form of back-up power in lieu of a traditional two generator solution.
