Progress is still being made at the UAB IT Technology Innovation Center. 🙌🏼 Before the holidays, our team took a peek inside to see the development. 🤩
We could not be happier for or more proud of LSF’s Elliot Brown! He is 1 of 16 architects named to @AIAGeorgja’s 2021 class of the Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program (CKLDP)!

"This competitive program aims to train and inspire the next generation of leaders in architecture through a series of eight sessions focused on such topics as political engagement, civic leadership and community engagement, business development, professional practice and equity, diversity and inclusion. Christopher Kelley, AIA was an active member of the Washington, DC architectural community. After his sudden passing in 2012, this program was created by the D.C. AIA chapter to continue his legacy of leadership and activism."

Congratulations, Elliot! 🌟🌟🌟

Building Design + Construction again has named Lin Building Design + Construction again has named Line Scale Form as one of the top Multifamily Architecture Firms for 2020! Multifamily housing has been a core expertise of Line Scale Form since the founding of the firm in the 90s. No matter the type, we embrace every opportunity to transform the complexities of housing into great living environments. @annelellis recently attended the annual Interface Multifamily Southeast conference and took away a lot of interesting information about housing that we can’t wait to put into play for 2021 and beyond.

Our final LINE SCALE FORM DESIGN AWARD SPOTLIGHT! Our final LINE SCALE FORM DESIGN AWARD SPOTLIGHT! We’re reposting Nada so we can share images of her project - Four Mississippi State University architecture students are the most recent recipients of a student design competition sponsored by Line Scale Form. Winners were awarded $500 each and were selected during the studio’s final jury reviews by President of Line Scale Form, Bruce Herrington, visiting reviewers, the project client and studio professors.

Nada Abdel-Aziz is from Greenwood, MS in the Mississippi Delta. She is currently a fourth-year student in the MSU School of Architecture and has just completed her first semester in the accelerated Master of Landscape Architecture program. She discovered architecture through after-school carpentry classes. Getting to build for her hometown with other youth inspired her to pursue a career in architecture. After three years of school and some practice, she finds that one of her favorite parts of the profession is meeting clients and seeing their vision and role in the world.

Abdel-Aziz's project, “Architecture for Climate Change,” was completed in Assistant Professor Silvina Lopez Barrera’s fourth-year studio.

This studio explored the ways architecture can respond and adapt to the demands of climate change through “shelter” interventions in vulnerable communities in Mississippi. Students researched and analyzed successful examples of climate-adaptive housing and shelters around the world and used their research to develop master plans and schematic designs for immediate and long-term shelters for a chosen site in either Greenville or Gulfport.

Abdel-Aziz said having a studio project focused on sustainability and resiliency gave her and her classmates the opportunity to learn more about green infrastructure and sustainable architecture.

LINE SCALE FORM DESIGN AWARD SPOTLIGHT! Caley Watt LINE SCALE FORM DESIGN AWARD SPOTLIGHT! Caley Watts is a fourth-year architecture student from Ridgeland, Mississippi. She developed a passion for architecture when she was in the third grade and knew that it was exactly what she wanted to pursue when she came to Mississippi State in the fall of 2017. She has always been drawn to the southern vernacular and the strong sense of place that is found throughout the state. Hospitality has played an important role in her life, and over the past three and a half years of her education she has come to realize how imperative it is to her career as well. Architecture is more than designing a pretty building; it’s creating a space in which people want to spend their time. In each of her projects, she works to incorporate those key elements of community and fellowship that bring architecture to life. This idea ties in with her love of historic architecture and how buildings have been used throughout time. The human connection to architecture, and the feelings evoked by the built environment have been a driving factor in her work. Without people, architecture essentially has no point. It’s the people that inhabit a space and how they interpret it that make a building significant and meaningful.

Watts completed her project, “Education Center for the Strawberry Plains Audubon Center,” in Associate Professor Alexis Gregory’s fourth-year studio. This service-learning studio project was for a real non-profit client, the Strawberry Plains Audubon Center – a 3,000 acre nature preserve owned and operated by the National Audubon Society. Students created a master plan for the site to grow the visitor center’s classroom space. Students conducted research and gained experience in how to design ecologically, considered the impact of climate change, and learned how to deal with the social justice aspects of working on the site of a former plantation that housed enslaved people and was created by taking land from indigenous people.
